The Summer Impact Fellowship is a 2-week or 4-week summer program for high school and early-university students (age 15-20) that nurtures aspiring leaders. Students can choose between a 2-week or 4-week program. Throughout the program, students will attend workshops on personal development, discuss important topics surrounding diverse social and environmental issues, and work directly with startups and social impact organizations to enhance essential soft skills such as communication, resilience, creativity, teamwork, and leadership.

About the Fellowship

Who should join this program?

  • Students and young people (15-20 years old) based in Hong Kong
  • Students and young people interested in self-development and leadership
  • Those who want to build professional skills and get exposure to real-life learning opportunities with a positive impact

Student Placement

Besides workshops, group work and individual learning, students are placed in social-impact startups and projects in areas such as Education, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Professional Services, and ESG.

Potential Placement Partners

Our partners are start-ups, charities and nonprofits that make a positive social impact. These organizations provide hands-on experience through projects and mentoring. They focus on migrant worker issues, modern-day slavery, environmental sustainability, professional services, CSR, and ESG. 

Workshop Details

Learning will be achieved through thematic workshops, readings, reflections, discussions and application of learnings in the work situations throughout the placement. Below is the outline and intended learnings for each topic.

What will participants learn:
● Explore failure as a necessary part of a growth journey
● Learn how to deal with challenges and adopt techniques to improve stress management and mental
health that lead to an overall greater resilience
● Practice project management skills – planning and goal-setting

What will participants learn:
● Explore communication and collaboration in a multicultural environment and different team roles
● Learn how to give constructive feedback and receive negative feedback
● Practice techniques that improve teamwork through effective communication

What will participants learn:
● Explore concepts of shared and social impact and Sustainable Development
● Learn about systemic changes, how they happen, and participants’ role as a Global Citizen
● Learn about and practice Design Thinking for social innovation

What will participants learn:
● Explore what it takes to become a good leader
● Learn principles of good storytelling for social impact
● Practice public speaking and presentation skills

Application

Basic Requirements

  • Age: 15-20 years old
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Access to a computer and a stable internet connection
  • Some prior experience using software from Microsoft or Google Suite
  • Able to commit to the entire program (10am-5pm every weekday) in Hong Kong

Selection Process

What do you need to submit:
○ a brief introduction of yourself (200 words)
○ why you want to take part in this fellowship program (200 words)
○ what social issues do you care about and how you would like to help resolve them (200 words)

Interviews and admissions will be conducted on rolling basis. Shortlisted candidates will be informed about the interview schedule and a short (max 30 minutes) interview will be conducted online on one of these dates.

Successful applicants will be notified via email. Acceptance to the program will be communicated on a rolling basis after the interviews.

Fellows will be introduced to their placement companies before the fellowship starts so that they can complete some formalities and conduct a placement-specific onboarding meeting.

Selected Fellows will be invited to an onboarding meeting to learn about the schedule and to meet the program team, other fellows, and placement companies.

Program Fees

Foundation for Shared Impact is a registered charity in Hong Kong, and the fees charged for the Fellowship Program will be used to support our work. Your payment for the program might be tax-deductible. Please contact us for more information.

  • 10,000 HKD per student (2-week program option)
  • 19,500 HKD per student (4-week program option)
