What was the challenge?
Empower U is a powerful program connecting domestic workers with opportunities to learn from NGOs, companies, and even top university professors. Their program is held at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), and many of their facilitators and instructors are HKU professors and students. As a program that saw hundreds of students register and learn across multiple courses, their systems were not geared up for this scale and included the use of several tedious forms which impacted the ability to measure or track student progress in the most effective manner. Their systems were also largely manual and did not provide insights on payments, student history, and more.
Our Solution:
FSI was roped in to connect the dots. We began by creating connected database management systems and dashboards to give a clear picture of the operations as well as help visualize the impact. We tagged each student with a unique identification number (in this case, their HKID) which created a seamless tracking mechanism that allowed the Empower U team to measure and manage everything from payments and reminders to student progress, attendance, sign up status and more.
Results:
This was built over a 3-4 week period. FSI continues to partner with Empower U and is now working closely with them to create remote learning tools and content so they can continue to drive impact and empower domestic workers in a post-COVID-19 world.
