FAQs
FSI is a tax-exempt incubator for social businesses to grow and thrive. It is an ecosystem where the impact of existing social businesses is maximized, so that new social businesses can emerge more easily, stand on steadier ground, and create further impact.
Our portfolio companies are chosen carefully and strategically to maximize social value. Social businesses that are attempting to address a problem, advance a solution, and have the potential to scale impact are welcome to join us in the creation of a just and equitable future.
Within our community of social businesses and entrepreneurs, we share resources, knowledge, information, network, financial resources, time, ideas, opportunities and more.
Our drive for collective action for positive change led us to form FSI. Our passion and conviction to intentionally create and share impact spans economic, social and environmental spheres. For us, impact means building communities that help bring transformational ideas to life, at scale and on a systemic level. Impact also means removing friction for social entrepreneurs so they can amplify their efforts, find passionate collaborators and sustain accelerated change. Learn more about our shared impact philosophy here.
We work with all impact organizations regardless of legal structure. Our philosophy is to support “for-impact” organizations, whether they are “for-profit” or “not-for-profit”.
Through our extensive network of connections with the government, public and private foundations, and universities, we are able to provide funding support to our portfolio companies on a case-to-case basis.
Although FSI and HKU are not directly connected, the two institutions have a close working relationship. FSI was founded by HKU lecturers and students, and initially supported companies founded by HKU students and staff. FSI staff also helps to manage and run the Social Venture Management Internship Course (SVM Course) out of HKU’s Faculty of Business & Economics.
Companies can reach out to us directly via our social media channels or drop by our office, Peak Impact, to have a chat and find ways to collaborate.
