Project Description

Overview

Who?
Asia’s first and largest soap recycling charity that works with students, hotels, corporates, volunteers and WASH charities across the region to reprocess lightly-used soap bars and bottled amenities, and distribute these life-saving resources to help communities reduce preventable hygiene-related diseases.

What?
Through soap recycling and distribution, partnership with hotel businesses, provision of meaningful internship opportunities, and its MEY (美) Program, Soap Cycling improves sanitation and hygiene, promotes green living and waste reduction, and empowers youth, the elderly and minorities.

Why?
Every year, three million children die from preventable diseases owing to poor hygiene, whilst at the same time 100 million soap bars are thrown away. By recycling hotel soap, Soap Cycling is able to take something that is otherwise filling our landfills and recycle it into something that can save the lives of thousands of children each year.

How?
By working with volunteers and WASH charities, Soap Cycling is able to distribute reprocessed soap bars to the communities in need. At its warehouse, Soap Cycling empowers the elderly and minority youths through decent work with a fair wage, as well as student interns from The University of Hong Kong through the provision of meaningful internship opportunities.

In April 2019, Soap Cycling hosted the inaugural G.R.E.E.N. Hospitality Conference to explore options and strategies for continual growth and strengthening of the hospitality industry while maintaining industry-wide sustainability standards.
